SALEM - A new call center opening up in Salem should create about 120 full-time jobs in the capital city.
Trendwest Resorts Inc., a Redmond, Wash.-based time share resort company, also plans to create about 80 part-time jobs in Salem, company officials told the Salem Statesman-Journal.
The company is a subsidiary of publicly held Cendant Corp, the same corporate parent that opened a Salem call center for Fairfield Resorts Inc. in 2002 and then closed the operation 18 months later.
Fairfield blamed the National Do Not Call Registry, which allows consumers to register their phone numbers to avoid telemarketers, for the office shutdown. Trendwest is moving into Fairfield's former offices.
Workers at the new operation won't be making cold calls or selling timeshares directly as Fairfield's workers once did.
