Leland Kendall "Lee" Balsiger

Aug. 10, 1925 — Sept. 27, 2005

Leland Kendall "Lee" Balsiger, 80, of Cottage Grove died Tuesday.

He was born in White Salmon, Wash., the son of Alvin and Lois Balsiger. He grew up in Washington and Oregon and also lived in California. He graduated from Oakridge High School and worked in logging and sheet metal.

He married Betty Ann Chaffee in Cottage Grove in 1948. They later divorced.

He served in the Navy from 1943 to 1946, during World War II.

He enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, camping and gardening.

He was a longtime member of the Cottage Grove Moose Lodge, VFW and the Elks.

He is survived by sister Joyce A. Owens of Cottage Grove; daughters Vickie Brainard of Eugene and Susan Cantrell of Albany; grandchildren Jason, Rick, Jeff, Rachael and Vanessa, and great-grandson Alexander.

No services are planned. Interment will be at Pleasant View Cemetery in Sherwood.
