Bike wreck injures two

A 29-year-old Albany man was critically injured Saturday and his passenger seriously hurt after he lost control of his motorcycle and hit a stump on Pirtle Road.

Justin Rizzio and his passenger, Ashley Boettcher, 26, of Fargo, N.D., were both taken by ambulance to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis.

Sgt. Dave Opel of the Linn County Sheriff’s Office said the two were riding east on Pirtle at 5:52 p.m. when they lost control entering an S curve. Rizzio laid the bike down, but it hit a stump, Opel said.

Both riders were wearing helmets.

Speed was a factor in the wreck, Opel said, and Rizzio’s license had been suspended. Charges are pending, he said. The investigation is continuing.
