John Dominic Goergen Sr.

March 14, 1940 — Jan. 20, 2008

John Dominic Goergen Sr., 67, of Corvallis died Sunday at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Hubbard to Edward T. and Marie C. (Schneider) Goergen. John was the oldest of seven children. He was reared in McMinnville, where he developed his lifelong love of trains. He graduated from Mount Angel Seminary High School.

He married Dorothy Hittner on Feb. 19, 1966, at St. Vincent’s in Salem.

He worked at the Thompson Flouring Mills in Shedd and later drove a school bus while attending the Merritt Davis Business School in Salem. John also worked for the Fitzmaurice Fertilizer Company, also of Salem, until moving to Albany in 1978. He worked as a tax preparer, bookkeeper and business consultant until his retirement in 1999.

His hobbies included his model trains, genealogy and gardening. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus since age 18 and a fourth degree Knight for more than 40 years.

He is survived by wife Dorothy Goergen; children John Jr. and wife Debbie, Jean and husband Chris, Judy and husband Brad, Jo Ann, Justin, and Jessica and husband Chris; and grandchildren Thomas, Dominic, Triston, Eddie, Kitana, Matthew, Gavin, Alex and Shaelyn. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Jim.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Corvallis. A private family graveside service will be at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions can be made directly to the family.

Twin Oaks Funeral Home and Cremation Services is handling arrangements.
