SCAM WARNING
Jury duty scam — The FBI has been warning people of a jury duty scam, though it has not yet been reported in the mid-valley.
The scam works like this:
Scammers identifying themselves as U.S. court employees have called people, advising them that they have been selected for jury duty. People are asked to verify names and Social Security numbers, and then provide credit card information. If the person refuses to give up the information, they are threatened with fines.
The judicial system does not contact people by telephone and ask for personal information, according to the FBI.
