Chemistry, biology, crime, weather and bugs are all on the curriculum for Super Science Saturday, set for Feb. 16 at Calapooia Middle School, 830 24th Ave. S.E.

The event is presented by the Albany Parks & Recreation Department and OMSI, and sponsored by CH2M Hill.

Classes are for kids from kindergarten through eighth grade, and the day begins at 9:30 a.m. The schedule includes:

9:30 a.m.

* “From the Inside Out” — exploring the skeletal, digestive, nervous, muscular respiratory and circulatory systems.

* “Extreme Weather” — How meteorologists study hurricanes, lightning, tornadoes and other weather conditions.

* “Crime Lab” — Put science skills to a forensics test.

10:40 a.m.

* “Weather Whys” — Explore the world of weather and what makes it change.

* “Jolts, Volts and Wires” — Learn how electricity is generated, and create electrical circuits.

* “Investigating Chemistry” — Explore chemical reactions through experiments with flame, dry ice and mystery compounds.

12:20 p.m.

* “Bug Me” — How the smallest creatures survive and help the world.

* “Imagineering” — Use imagination and engineering to design and build a writing machine.

1:30 p.m.

* “Snakes Alive!” — The hour-long assembly will introduce all Super Science participants to a variety of snakes.
