Art entries sought for Jefferson festival

Print competition entries are due by March 19

JEFFERSON — The Jefferson Festival of the Flowers committee is looking for artists in the mid-valley to participate in a print competition.

The festival is May 3.

The committee will buy the winning print design for $300, and this purchase will include printing rights. The winning print becomes the property of the Jefferson Festival of the Flowers. The winning artist will agree to sign 100 prints for “artist proof” and will receive a print in addition to the cash award.

Each artist may submit up to two entries. Artists should include a $5 non-refundable entry fee for one entry and $10 for two entries.

The flower selected for the 2008 contest is the daffodil. Creative accents such as butterflies, dragonflies, birds and bees are permitted.

The submitted artwork should be 13-by-16 inches and matted to a 19-by-22-inch overall size. The artist should exclude his or her name from the front of the piece. The winning entry will be signed after judging.

Work will be displayed during the festival.

March 19 is the deadline to submit. Entries should be sent to the Jefferson Festival of Flowers, P.O. Box 355, Jefferson, OR 97352, or delivered to the Jefferson Area Chamber of Commerce, 107 N. Main St. in the Community Center building.

For more information, contact Karen Wells at (541) 327-2469 or (541) 327-7996.

Artists must send return postage with entries and suitable packaging so that non-winning entries can be returned after the exhibit. They can also be picked up at the Jefferson Community Center within a week after the festival. All entries will be judged the week of March 31.
