William “Bill” J. Edwards

July 5, 1955 — Feb. 23, 2008

William “Bill” John Edwards passed away suddenly and unexpectedly Saturday in his home from heart failure.

He was born on the southern Oregon coast in North Bend to Winton “Bill” and Mabel Edwards. He was reared in Bend and graduated from high school in 1973. He served in the Coast Guard from 1973 to 1976.

He met and then married Gayle Diane Hefner on Nov. 11, 1975, in Port Orford. A year later, they moved to the Lebanon area. Bill and Gayle became the proud parents of two daughters. Bill graduated from the Oregon Institute of Technology with a bachelor’s degree in diesel power technology in 1986.

Bill was faithful in his love of Jesus Christ and adored his family. He enjoyed many outdoor activities and sports with his family and friends, including boating, fishing, camping and playing volleyball. He also felt compelled to be involved in politics to preserve the freedoms of America for his beloved family and future generations. His two grandchildren were the objects of his great affection and love.

Bill is survived by his wife, Gayle; daughters Elizabeth and Evelyn; son-in-law Michael; grandchildren Mikayla and Matthew; brother Richard; as well as extended family and friends in Christ. Bill was preceded in death by his father, mother and oldest brother, Jonathon.

A casual funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Huston-Jost Funeral Home. Private burial will be at Powell Cemetery.

Bill and Gayle believe in advancing the word of God. They would be honored to have contributions made to the American Bible Society in lieu of flowers. Please go to www.AmericanBible.org if interested.

Huston-Jost Funeral Home is handling arrangements (www.huston
