The 40th annual Linn-Benton Community College Commencement Ceremony was held Thursday evening at the Linn County Fair & Expo Center.

LBCC awarded 827 degrees and certificates to 719 candidates this year. About 370 people received their GED, with 170 of those students completing the LBCC GED preparation program.

A traditional bagpipe processional was led by the Portland Metro Pipe Band, with posting of the colors by the American Legion Post 10 of Albany. LBCC President Rita Cavin gave the welcome and presented several awards, including an honorary degree to Pat Bedore, retiring superintendent of the Greater Albany Public School District; Phi Theta Kappa Awards to Danielle Peters and Joseph Quinlivan; and Distinguished Alumni Awards to Michael Brown, Linda Sekermestrovich, Peter Sekermestrovich and Wendy Wunderwald.

Stephanie Ware, past president of the LBCC Associated Student Government, gave the student address.
