People arrested are innocent unless proved otherwise in court. Initial charges often change as a case progresses.

ALBANY POLICE

Stolen bike — A silver and gray Trek bicycle was reported stolen Sunday from a garage in the 1400 block of Ninth Avenue S.W. Also stolen was a bicycle light and digital odometer. Total value: $990.

Crash — Police responded at 6:49 p.m. Sunday to a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian near the 3100 block of Pacific Boulevard S.E. The police report wasn’t complete this morning so details weren’t available. According to initial information, one person had minor injuries and was taken to the Corvallis hospital.

Office burglary — An office building in the 200 block of Water Avenue N.W. was broken into sometime between Friday evening and Sunday evening. It was still unknown this morning what if anything was stolen.

Prowler — A caller living in the 300 block of Fifth Avenue S.E. reported hearing someone on the roof early Saturday morning. Police investigated but found no one.

LINN COUNTY SHERIFF

Free ride — Deputies located four adults onboard a train Saturday near 34300 Highway 99E just outside of Albany. They had hopped the train in Eugene. All four had sleeping bags and one also had less than an ounce of marijuana. They all had “considerable personal property,” including a pet rat, a deputy reported. Each was cited for trespassing.

More metal theft arrests — As part of a county-wide metal theft investigation, detectives on Thursday arrested two more suspects.

Dallas David Fisher, 23, and William Joseph Daly, 51, both of Albany, were cited for first-degree theft. A detective issued the citations after finding the men near 20th Avenue and Walnut Street S.W. in Albany.

According to the sheriff’s office, Fisher allegedly stole irrigation system wire from a farm near Scio and Daly allegedly stole wire from a power substation.

Earlier this month, detectives arrested two other men in connection with similar thefts. Detectives said they have a total of eight suspects involved in various thefts at farms and power substations that were reported earlier this year.

The investigation continues.

Oregon State police

Crash — An Oregon State Police trooper and a driver from Albany received minor injuries Sunday evening when their vehicles collided on Interstate 5 in the south Salem area.

The Salem Police Department is completing the investigation.

OSP Sgt. Dale Young provided this account:

About 6:47 p.m. Sunday, OSP Trooper Steve Hinkle was in a marked 2003 Ford Crown Victoria patrol car with at least overhead emergency lights activated as he drove south on I-5 near milepost 248 to a reported grass fire near milepost 242.

The grass fire was discovered by an OSP detective who had requested assistance.

As the trooper was in the left lane passing a 2006 Buick four-door in the right lane, the Buick started to change lanes and collided with the right side of the OSP patrol car causing both vehicles to lose control. The patrol car spun around and came to rest against the center median, partially blocking the left lane. The Buick went off the freeway and came to a stop in nearby trees.

Hinkle, 27, was treated at Salem Hospital and released. The Buick’s driver, Thomas L. Morehead, 65, had minor injuries. He refused to be taken to a hospital. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Salem police cited Morehead for failure to maintain a lane of travel and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.

The Oregon Department of Transportation and local fire personnel assisted at the scene. One southbound lane was closed about 90 minutes.
