Robert E. Ledford

March 19, 1921 — July 21, 2008

Robert E. Ledford, 87, of Scio passed away Monday at home.

Robert was born March 19, 1921, in Whiteright, Texas to William C. and Arista C. (Reynolds) Ledford. He worked as a cowboy until World War II. He served honorably in the U.S. Army 33rd Infantry. After the war, Robert worked as a welder in shipyards and construction. He married Gladys Wiley in Joplin, Mo., on Oct. 29, 1939. They moved to Scio nearly 40 years ago.

He was a member of the Cherokee Nation and the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, painting, making jewelry, Indian folklore and history, gardening and raising miniature horses.

Robert is survived by his two sons, Kermit Lee Ledford of New Mexico and Rockie Wayne Ledford of Scio; daughter Bonnita Ann Lawson of Albany; brother Thelbut Lee Ledford of Palm Springs, Calif.; sister Thelma Ledford of Galyen, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys; brother J.W. Ledford; sister LeViva Ledford; and a granddaughter.

Memorials may be made to the Paralyzed Veterans in care of AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home, 805 Ellsworth St. S.W., Albany, OR 97321.

No public services will take place.
