James Lyle Westbrook

Jan. 13, 1934 — Aug. 1, 2008

James Lyle Westbrook, 74, of Albany died Friday at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis.

He was born in South Beloit, Ill., to Marjorie and Lyle Westbrook. He married Joan Westbrook on March 3, 1962. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He retired from Hoyt Arboretum in 1993 and traveled extensively. He loved the Portland Trail Blazers, his family and his dogs. His hobbies were hiking, bird watching, sports and working in the yard.

James is survived by his wife, Joan of Albany; sons Bill of Portland, Randy and Stephen of Washington, and Jeff of California; brother John of Portland; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Diane; and daughter Cynthia.

At his request there will be no services.

Memorial contributions may be made to Food for the Poor or the Oregon Humane Society.
