John ‘Johnny’ D. McCann

Jan. 18, 1938 — Aug. 6, 2008

John McCann, 70, of Albany passed away Wednesday at Samaritan Albany General Hospital.

He was born in Bennington, Okla., the son of Obie and Ruby (Robinson) McCann. He was raised in Oklahoma and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1954 and served in the Korean conflict until his discharge in 1958. He married Mary Ann Dixon on Sept. 6, 1958, in Santa Paula, Calif., and they resided in Santa Paula until moving to Albany in 1969. Johnny worked for Georgia Pacific for five years before going to work for Wah Chang, where he retired in 2000.

Johnny enjoyed deer hunting and fishing and was a craftsman, spending many hours in his shop.

He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Mary Ann McCann of Albany; daughter Denise Lane of Stillwater, Okla.; sons Robert and Larry McCann, both of Albany; brother Obie McCann Jr. of Stockton, Calif.; sisters Maxine Sumner and Millie Guthrie, both of Sweet Home; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by son Kenneth; and brothers Carl, Harold and Randal.

A visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with a graveside service to follow at Waverly Memorial Cemetery.
