Ellis ends stint with Lebanon volleyball

Adam Ellis wasn’t happy with the changes he was asked to make, so he’s moving on after two years.

Ellis said he was told when he took the job as head coach of the Lebanon High School volleyball program that he would be able to do it his way.

“I wanted to stay there and build the program the best I could,” Ellis said.

But the Oregon State student said he was asked by district officials to listen to more parent input and change other things about the program.

“I couldn’t run the program that way,” Ellis said.

So Ellis resigned and is now working with the Oregon State club team, in addition to the high school club coaching he does during the winter and spring.

Ellis said he wasn’t getting the support from the school district he had hoped for.

But, he added, new athletic director Rob Allen would have been a good person to work for this coming season.

Ellis helped Lebanon reach new heights in his two seasons.

In 2006, the Warriors won the Mid-Willamette Conference and reached the 5A state semifinals before finishing fifth.

Last fall, Lebanon won a state playoff match but didn’t reach the tournament’s final site.

Lebanon’s new coach is Jennifer Rodriguez, an assistant to Ellis last fall.
