Hannah Lea, 10, goes down feet first on the slide Monday evening at the pool at Swanson Park in Albany. More than 600 children qualified for two pool parties after reading or being read to for more than 25 hours this summer as part of a program sponsored by the Albany Public Library. Hundreds of children attended Monday’s party. Overall this summer, the number of people visiting the pool was was up over last year until the cool, rainy days of August arrived, said Rob Romancier, who is in charge of the pool for the city. It was still a good year, he said. Swimmers can still enjoy the pool, which will stay open through Labor Day. Hours on Labor Day are noon to 5 p.m. The pool will reopen on the first Monday after school closes next June.
