Prep football capsules

All games begin at 7 p.m.; 2007 records are listed.

Today

Scio at Oakridge

Records: Scio 6-4, 3-2 Tri-River Conference; Oakridge 8-3, 6-1 Mountain View Conference.

The visiting Loggers face a fellow 2A state playoff team from last year.

Scio lost in the first round and Oakridge reached the quarterfinals.

Friday

Liberty at South Albany

Records: Liberty 2-8, 1-6 Northwest Oregon Conference; South Albany 5-5, 3-4 Mid-Willamette Conference.

This game should allow the Rebels to get off on a positive step, as they did last year with wins against Hillsboro and Century.

Liberty scored less than 14 points six times in 2007.

Sherwood at West Albany

Records: Sherwood 8-3, 6-1 Northwest Oregon; West Albany 14-0, 7-0 Mid-Willamette.

The Bulldogs’ biggest holes to fill from their state championship season come on defense.

Sherwood should provide a good measuring stick. West won 21-0 at Sherwood last year.

Parkrose at Lebanon

Records: Parkrose 0-10, 0-7 Northwest Oregon; Lebanon 3-7, 3-4 Mid-Willamette.

Lebanon’s offense should get plenty of work in this one as Parkrose allowed 60 points per game in 2007.

The Warriors started 0-4 in 2007 but have a chance to go 3-0 in nonleague games in 2008.

Sweet Home at Sisters

Records: Sweet Home

5-5, 2-2 Val-Co League; Sisters 13-1, 6-0 Sky-Em League.

As is the norm, Sweet Home has loaded up its nonleague schedule in preparation for league play.

Sisters lost three of its best players after two straight state runner-up finishes, including Cory McCaffrey, Oregon’s all-time leading rusher.

Santiam Christian

vs. Rainier

Location: At Corvallis High School.

Records: Santiam Christian 8-3, 5-1 PacWest Conference; Rainier 11-2, 5-0 Lewis & Clark League.

The Eagles have their hands full with the Columbians, who reached the 3A state semifinals last year.

Santiam Christian lost to Rainier’s league rival, Clatskanie in overtime in the first round of the playoffs.

Harrisburg at Knappa

Records: Harrisburg 3-7, 2-4 PacWest; Knappa 5-6, 2-2 Northwest League.

The Eagles took a big step forward last year with three wins. They’ll try to continue that progression with first-year coach Steve Luby.

Harrisburg got past 2A Knappa 19-6 in the 2007 opener.

Jefferson vs. Blanchet

Location: At Willamette University in Salem

Records: Jefferson 1-9, 0-6 PacWest; Blanchet 4-6, 2-3 Tri-River.

It will be a steep test for the visiting Lions. Blanchet defeated Jefferson 27-0 in last year’s opener.

Central Linn at Reedsport

Records: Central Linn

6-6, 4-3 Mountain View; Reedsport 5-5, 2-4 Sunset Conference.

The Cobras return a strong group of players that helped the team reach the 2A state quarterfinals.

Reedsport plays in a loaded 3A league. The Braves won 22-14 in Halsey last year.
