Mary Ellen Delores Marcus

Nov. 2, 1934 — Aug. 1, 2008

Mary Ellen Delores Marcus passed away Aug. 1, at Tierra Rose Care Center after a long illness.

She had lived in Tierra Rose the last 17 years. She especially loved playing bingo and getting to know the other patients and especially the staff. She loved eating pizza and would order it without the knowledge of the staff, but the staff would always chip in and pay for it.

Mary was born in Nebraska City, Neb., the daughter of Raymond and Noreen (Paben) Law. She grew up in Albany where she met and married James Irvin Marcus. They had five children. James preceded her in death in 1973.

Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister.

She is survived by three children, Randy of McMinnville, Cheryl of Coos Bay and Terry of Kansas City, Mo.; 10 grandchildren, Josh, Crystal, Sarah, John and Kin Upchurch, and Lisa, Jennifer, Emily, Eli and Eric Burke; 10 great-grandchildren, Erik Jr., Timothy, Harley Terrence, Xabier, DeAnthony, Darion, John and Elysia; sisters Shirley Wilkerson and husband Ron and Janice Granvold and husband Rich, all of Albany; and brothers Mile and Doug Walling of Portland.

Mary was preceded in death by both of her parents; daughter Donna Upchurch, who passed away just days before Mary; son Steven Marcus; and sisters Christina Law and Sharon May.

A lovely memorial service took place at Tierra Rose Care Center and she was laid to red beside her husband at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.

Howel-Edwards-Doeksen with Rigdon-Ransom Funeral Directors in Salem is handling arrangements.
