Nov. 16, 1925 — Sept. 3, 2008

Gladys V. Brown, 82, of Albany died Wednesday at the Mennonite Home of Albany.

She was born in Gutherie, Okla., to Nathaniel and Nora (Nelson) Blackmon. Gladys attended schools in Gutherie and moved to Oregon in 1942 where she and her husband, Robert Stephens, began their family. Later, Gladys married Clifford A. Brown and they had a daughter, Debra. In 1964 the family moved from Portland to Albany where they owned and operated REM Metals, now known as Selmet.

Gladys enjoyed sewing, gardening and feeding the wild birds that frequented her yard.

The enduring memories of Gladys will always be cherished by her family and friends.

Gladys is survived by her son, Robert D. Stephens; daughters Connie Moody and Delores I. Foss; brothers Ernest and Curtis Wayne Blackmon; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Clifford; daughter Carol V. De Vet; sister Leota; and brothers Frankie and Billy.

A visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with a graveside committal and vault interment at Twin Oaks. Memorial contributions may be made to Evergreen Hospice or the Mennonite Home.

Twin Oaks Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
