Public safety log (Sept. 15)

People arrested are innocent unless proven otherwise in court. Initial charges often change as a case progresses.

ALBANY POLICE

Mailbox fires — Police received a call shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday about kids lighting mailboxes on fire in the 2200 block of Front Avenue N.E.

A responding officer spotted two 16-year-old boys using green spray paint as an accelerant to start a fire. When the teens saw the officer, they took off. Police found one of the boys with green paint on his hands. The other boy turned himself in later. Both teens were charged with reckless burning and curfew violation.

At least three mailboxes were damaged.

Burglary in progress — Officers responded at 1:18 a.m. Sunday to a report of a burglary in progress at a home in the 800 block of Jefferson Street S.E. The caller said two males had pulled up to the house, loaded up a pickup, and left after the caller confronted them.

Police stopped the pickup near Queen Avenue and Jefferson Street S.E. In the back of the pickup was a TV, air conditioning unit and DVDs that had been stolen from the house, police said. Only one person was in the pickup.

Guillermo Rojas, 17, of Albany was arrested on charges of first-degree burglary, first-degree theft, criminal mischief and minor in possession of alcohol. He was taken to the Linn Benton Juvenile Detention Center.

Police said a second male was involved in the burglary but they don’t know who he is.

Stolen vehicle — A white 2006 Chevy Trailblazer with license 112 CQZ was reported stolen Sunday from the 3200 block of 24th Avenue S.E.

LINN COUNTY SHERIFF

Stun gun dispute — Deputies responded to the 400 block of W. Sixth Street in Halsey around 11:20 a.m. Sunday and spoke with a 16-year-old boy who said he had been shocked when another teen used a stun gun on him. The teen with the stun gun, who is also 16, denied shocking anyone.

Deputies seized the Dragon Fire 100,000 volt stun gun and took the boy to the Linn Benton Juvenile Detention Center on a charge of unlawful use of a stun gun.
