PORTLAND (AP) — Health officials say people should not to drink or touch the water in two southern Oregon reservoirs.

Water sampling shows both Dexter Reservoir in Lane County and Lemolo Lake in Douglas County have high levels of a blue-green algae.

Blue-green algae can produce toxins that are harmful to humans and animals. Drinking or touching the water can lead to vomiting, diarrhea, respiratory failure and other symptoms that may require immediate medical attention.

The toxins cannot be removed by boiling, filtering or treating water.

The state health department says people who cook fish from the reservoirs should remove all fat, skin and organs.
