Furnace odor prompts evacuation of WAHS

West Albany High School was evacuated shortly after 8 this morning after people inside smelled smoke and called 911, according to a dispatcher at the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.

Albany firefighters arrived at the school shortly after the call came in. They found the odor was actually the routine smell from the furnace, which was kicking on for the first time since the school year began.
