ALBANY

Legion auxiliary to hold rummage sale


The American Legion Auxiliary Albany Unit 10 will hold a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, at 1215 Pacific Blvd. S.E.

All proceeds will fund the veterans and children's and youth programs.

Rick Dancer to speak at Republican luncheon

Rick Dancer, republican candidate for Secretary of State, will speak at the Linn County Republican Women meeting at noon Thursday at the Republican headquarters, 321 First Ave. S.E.

The meeting is open to men and women. A potluck lunch will be provided.

Sports heroes will be topic of library meeting

“Sports Heroes of Albany’s Past” will be the October topic for the Friends of the Albany Public Library monthly meeting. The meeting starts at noon Friday at the main branch of the library, 1390 Waverly Drive S.E. It is free and open to the public.

Albany author and documentary film producer Zed Merrill will share insights into the history of area sports. Special sports legends invited to attend the gathering include Archie Hays, Bud Fortier, Bill Mikkelson, Bob Jacobson, Bob Morris, Denny Miller, Bud Spencer, Thad Looney and John Schlegal.

All visitors are invited to the site of the new Albany Public Library building following the program. The new library is scheduled to open in 2009.

CORVALLIS

Bill Staines to give folklore concert


A folklore concert by singer/songwriter Bill Staines will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the First Congregational Church, 4515 S.W. West Hills Road.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $16 at the door. There is a $2 discount for Corvallis Folklore Society members and a $1 discount for seniors and children under 12. Tickets are available at Grass Roots Books and Music, 227 S.W. Second St., Corvallis.
