Tell us about your holiday event


The Democrat-Herald and Gazette-Times are seeking submissions for the annual Holiday Gift Book, which includes holiday events that occur between Thanksgiving and Jan. 1, 2009. Bazaars and other events that were in the 2007 Holiday Bazaar Guide are not eligible.

Include the name of the event, dates, times, location, a brief description and contact information. If your event appeared in previous years’ Gift Books, please submit updated information.

ALBANY

‘Soul of India’ to kick off film series


The Linn-Benton Community College Travel at the Tripp film series kicks off the 2008-09 season with “Soul of India,” by filmmaker Rick Ray, at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Russell Tripp Performance Center in Takena Hall, 6500 Pacific Blvd. S.W.

The film takes viewers to the Taj Mahal, the palaces of Rajasthan, the sweeping Himalayas, the River Ganges and many other exotic places.

Documentary filmmaker Ray spent six months touring the country. He is the award-winning director of the internationally acclaimed film “10 Questions for the Dalai Lama.”

Films will be shown at 2 p.m. on Sundays. Tickets are $7, or $6 for students and seniors. Season Passports for all four films cost $20. The schedule is:

* Jan. 25, 2009: “The Real World of New Zealand” with Rick Howard.

* March 29, 2009: “The Other Side of Mexico” with Fran Reidelberger.

* April 26, 2009: “Postcards from Italy” with Steve McCurdy.

Club to hold fundraiser for new library

The Albany Area MOMS Club is hosting a fundraiser to benefit the Albany Public Library from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Albany Burgerville.

A portion of all sales during that time will benefit the children’s area of the new library.

LEBANON

American Legion to host music social


American Legion Post 51 will host a social with music from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at 480 Main St.

Jefferson Jammers will host the jamboree and all musicians are invited to join in and play. Lunch will be served. Homemade pies will be sold to benefit children who suffer from cystic fibrosis.
