Library? You can’t miss it!

The colors of the new library building may in fact seem, well, odd. However, I believe the color choices were wise ones!

The building is impossible to miss now and therefore catches the eye! As many have stated in opinions, “I wonder what the inside will look like....” Ha, and the bait is set. If one wonders what the inside looks like, one may go in!

We are blessed to have such a great library in Albany, including the staff. On that note, thank you to all of the librarians who make the library such a great place and I am speaking for myself and my charges!

Go in and check it out!

Give thanks with deeds

As Thanksgiving comes again, we remember what this day means and how it came about. In his first Thanksgiving Proclamation, George Washington said, “Let us acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, obey His will, be grateful of His benefits and humbly implore His protection, aid and favor. He is the author of all the good that was, is and that will be. That we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country.”

We had a right foundation and Godly beginnings. We are a grateful people who give generously both at home and around the world. Like the Good Samaritan, we seek to do good to our neighbor. We believe in the biblical truth, “Give and it shall be given unto you.” Let us therefore give thanks on this Thanksgiving Day, not just with words, but with deeds as well.

We, the Novak family, wish you a very happy Thanksgiving. God bless you all.

Equal? No, of course not

I’m sure Ms. Kenagy was well intended in her letter to the editor Nov. 25, however it has misconceptions that need to be cleared up.

First of all, her notion that the ongoing conflict initiated and perpetuated by Hamas is not a “war between equals” and not a “level playing field” is true; albeit absurd. Let me give you a little proverb that I just made up: “Little weak man who continuously picks on big strong man should be prepared to get their butt stomped.”

Honestly, do you think if a group in Northern Mexico started lobbing missiles into Texas or Southern California that we should organize an equal number of people at an equidistant place on our side of the border and hurl the same amount of missiles back?

The bottom line, Ms. Kenagy, war is not fair and it is never a level playing field. It is won by the best trained and best equipped. I have a solution for Hamas though: Stop bombing Israel! When they don’t bomb, Israel doesn’t retaliate!

One last thing. Your “Jenin massacre” death tolls are actually as follows: Palestinians 56, Israeli soldiers 23 (taken from the Weekly Standard May 8, 2002). It was hardly a massacre, just another effective retaliation by Israel.

Library: Another solution

Instead of re-painting the library, how about painting some murals depicting our city’s agricultural heritage, using the existing colors as a backdrop?

We have so many talented local artists. Maybe there are some who could volunteer their skills.

Sweet Home is a wonderful example of what murals can do to turn a boring (or ugly) wall into a real work of art, adding interest, beauty and pride to their community.
