Phillip Eugene Edney, 82, of Sweet Home died Friday.

He was born on in Tonkawa, Okla., the son of Phil and Verbadell (Williams) Edney.

Phillip lived in Oklahoma until he was 8 years old, when he moved to Bend; his family later settled in Sweet Home where he lived the remainder of his life. In high school he played football and boxed. He graduated from Sweet Home High School and went on to attend college for two years in Forest Grove.

He was a World War II veteran, serving overseas in the Army. He worked as a logger. He loved to be in the outdoors. After retirement him and his wife, June loved to go fishing. Every year they would go camp for about a week and go hunting. He loved to work on things and make broken things work again. To know him was to love him, he will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife, June; sons Steve (from a previous marriage), and Bruce and wife Susan Edney; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his parents; sister Juanita; son Charles; and two infant grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Church of the Nazarene in Sweet Home. Donations can be made to the Nazarene church.
