Tree of Remembrance

The Tree of Remembrance ceremony, hosted by the Linn County Victim Impact Panel, is held each year in Albany to remember people who have been injured or killed by impaired drivers. This year’s speakers were Anne Pratt with Mothers Against Drunk Driving, state representatives Sara Gelser and Andy Olson, and Linn Circuit Judge Daniel Murphy. “One of our greatest fears is that our loved ones will be forgotten as time goes on,” said Pratt, whose son was killed by a drunken driver in 1998. Ceremonies like these, she said, ensure that doesn’t happen. About 45 ornaments hung on a decorated Christmas tree were inscribed with the names of victims. The tree will be on display at the Heritage Mall during the holiday season.
