Dorothy Elizabeth Shelton

Aug. 20, 1921 — Nov. 28, 2008

Dorothy Elizabeth Shelton, 87, of Corvallis died Friday.

Dorothy E. Shelton was born in Harrisburg to Ishmael Leon and Alice Morford and attended 12 years of Alsea schools. She lived in Monroe from 1945 to 1998 before moving to Corvallis.

Dorothy worked for a doctor in Corvallis and then at Corvallis Laundry before working at a restaurant in Alsea. She married Donald M. Shelton, May 12, 1942, in Dallas, Texas.

Dorothy loved to cook big meals for the family. Everything was homemade from her kitchen. She enjoyed canning and was an avid seamstress. In her earlier years she loved dancing and pinochle on Saturday nights. Dorothy was priceless and determined. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren adored her and she cherished her time with them. She would instill values that made life easier for her family.

She is survived by three children, Lon Shelton and wife Susan of Albany, Nancy Brittain and husband Robert of Philomath, and Thomas Shelton and wife Barbara of Monroe; sister Mary Alice Sapp of Corvallis; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald M. Shelton; and siblings Donald D. Thomas, Harold Thomas and Stanley W. Thomas.

A funeral service will be at noon, Wednesday at McHenry Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Rest Lawn Cemetery in Junction City. Pastor Greg Klein will officiate.
