Florist added: Michelle Knight, an experienced florist and designer, has joined Holstein House Gardens LLC of Shedd. Formerly with Lovelace Flowers and Michelle Knight Designs, she will be making floral arrangements and assisting with wedding and event decor. Holstein House Gardens also announced that overnight lodging will soon be coming for event guests at the newly designated Norwegian Wood Farm. It is expected to be available by 2010. New hospitalist: Dr. Stephanie Emery joined the Samaritan Albany General Hospital team as the sixth hospitalist on the staff. Emery earned a medical degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., in 1995, where she also completed residency training and served as chief resident. She is board certified in internal medicine, palliative care and hospice medicine. She is the medical director of Cascade Hospice. Emery is a member of the Society of Hospital Medicine and the American College of Physicians. She is fluent in German and speaks conversational Spanish.

Practice adds two: Dr. Luis Vela announced the addition of Dr. Leon Malkin and Darci Glass, PA-C, to his private practice. Malkin will work in Vela's Corvallis Medical Center office one day a week. Glass will work full time.

Since retiring from full-time practice in 2006, Malkin has been at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Salem, and at Peace Harbor Hospital in Florence. He earned his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine and completed his orthopedic residency at Boston's University Hospital. Malkin was on staff at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis from 1988 to 2006.

Glass earned her master's degree in physician assistant studies from Midwestern University and worked as a physician assistant at Wenatchee Valley Medical Center and at Wenatchee Valley Hospital in Wenatchee, Wash.

Vela is an osteopathic physician and board-certified orthopedic surgeon. He treats patients in Corvallis, and Albany. For more information call (541) 757-3700.

Controller: Tami Ellingson of Corvallis is the new controller of the OSU Alumni Association, a nonprofit organization that maintains alumni relations for Oregon State University. The association provides a wide variety of services to OSU and its more than 150,000 alumni. A certified public accountant with a bachelor's degree in accounting from Eastern Oregon University, Ellingson has worked in financial management for the Georgia Pacific and Boise Cascade corporations. Most recently she was a controller for Allied Waste Services of Corvallis. She is married to Craig Ellingson, athletic director and girls' basketball coach at Crescent Valley High School in Corvallis.

Board president: Bill Perry of Canby is the new president of the Oregon State University Alumni Association Board of Directors. Perry earned a bachelor's degree from the OSU College of Liberal Arts in 1989. He is director of government relations for the Oregon Restaurant Association and a graduate of The Dalles High School.
