New general manager: Thomas E. Richards, president of Absolute Towing Services Inc., has announced that John Holt has joined the management team as general manager. Holt has 29 years experience in the towing industry. He previously owned A-1 Salvage and H&H towing in Roseberg, and was general manager of City Auto Towing in Reno, Nev., managing a fleet of 25 tow trucks and specializing in the heavy duty towing market. In Nevada, Holt was a recognized expert in that state's lien sales process.

Absolute Towing provides 24-hour on-site dispatch as well as property impound, vehicle lockout and stranded motorist services. It serves Albany and Corvallis from locations on Highway 34. Philanthropic efforts: OSU Federal Credit Union completed its 2008 philanthropic efforts with more than $140,000 invested into its five-county field of membership through donations, grants and scholarships. OSU Federal, recently recognized as the National Community Credit Union of the Year for such efforts, distributed these funds to more than 160 schools and nonprofit organizations over the past 12 months. The efforts included $15,000 in college scholarships for local high school seniors, other scholarship support at local colleges that exceeded $20,000, and $12,500 in K-12 education grants that funded projects benefitting the instruction of more than 12,000 students in five counties. Volunteerism by OSU Federal staff amounted to more than 5,000 hours in 2008.

OSU Federal is a not-for-profit, member-owned community credit union open to anyone who lives, works or goes to school in Linn, Benton, Lincoln, Marion or Polk County.

Clinic expands service: The Corvallis Clinic is expanding specialty services to oncology patients and pulmonary patients in Linn County. Pulmonary medicine specialists Dr. Susan Cho, Dr. Vincent Gimino, Dr. John Gotchall and Dr. Mark Pohlman will see patients at The Corvallis Clinic's Albany Family & Specialty Medicine office, 1705 Waverly Drive S.E., on Thursdays. Repiratory therapist Debbie Sommers will assist the pulmonary medicine specialists. For appointments, call the Pulmonary Department office in Corvallis at (541) 754-1272. Cellar honored: Cardwell Hill Cellars of Philomath has won a Platinum award and was 11th out of 320 entries overall in the annual Platinum Competition conducted by Wine Press Northwest. The competition is among wineries that have won a gold medal in one of the major U.S. competitions. In the past eight years of the Wine Press Northwest competition there have been just three Platinum award winners for pinot noir. Cardwell Hill Cellars' honor was for its pinot noir.
