More than 1,500 high school seniors from Linn and Benton counties will participate in the 17th annual Youth Job Fair at Linn-Benton Community College Tuesday.
The event will start at 9:20 a.m. and run to 12:40 p.m. It is mandatory for all area high school seniors.
Organized by LBCC and the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce, the event will feature more than 220 volunteers from the business community. Business people will share their professional experience with students in an effort to support career education, said organizer Scout Massey of the Chamber of Commerce.
"The job fair is a unique opportunity to have kids sit face to face with business leaders and ask the type of questions they want answers for," Massey said. "It's a good chance for students to open up a lot of avenues."
The job fair will be broken into three sections to accommodate all the students.
One session is a mock job interview. Students will bring in their resumes and go through 10-minute simulations, where they will be reviewed. Comments and scores will be sent back to the schools for students to see how they performed.
A variety of workshops are slated and representatives from area colleges and trade schools will be on hand, highlighting numerous educational and career opportunities.
A motivational speaker, Joe Esty of Salem, will share insights in a session titled "Discovering Your Destiny."
"It's an amazing event and a really positive experience for the students," South Albany High School Assistant Principal Kathryn Hedrick said. "Although the students are required to participate, it's always popular. I expect the same thing will happen this year."
According to Massey, the job fair still needs volunteers to participate in the event.
