Ombudsman: Sherry Doornink of Scio was recently appointed by Meredith Cote, the Long-Term Care Ombudsman for the State of Oregon, to serve as a Certified Ombudsman. She will serve as an advocate for the residents of long-term care facilities, helping ensure the residents receive the best possible care. Doornink is a former dispatcher with Fruitt Trucking and is a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. She will serve as the Ombudsman for the residents of Timberwood Court Specialty Care in Albany, Willamette Manor Assisted Living in Lebanon and four adult foster homes in Lebanon.
The Office of the Long-Term Care Ombudsman is a program of the State of Oregon, dedicated to protecting the rights, safety and dignity of the residents of nursing homes, residential care facilities, assisted living facilities and adult foster care homes.

Award finalist: Reece & Associates, an Albany company, will be honored at the 2008 Excellence in Family Business Awards on Nov. 20 at the Oregon Zoo in Portland. It is one of eight finalist companies that will be recognized.
Companies receiving top honors are Reser's Fine Foods, Azumano Travel, Healthy Pets Northwest of Portland, Glass Alchemy of Portland, R.R. King Logging of Florence, and Nosler Inc. of Bend.
Awards are presented by Oregon State University's Austin Family Business Program and recognize the achievements of family businesses in innovation, entrepreneurship, commitment and community involvement.
OSU dean honored: Thayne Dutson, retired dean of Oregon State University's College of Agriculture Sciences, has been selected for the 2008 Ag Connection Award presented by the Agri-Business Council of Oregon. The award is given annually to recognize outstanding leadership in connecting the public with agriculture. Dutson was honored for overseeing significant growth of the college's education and research roles, including the OSU Seafood Laboratory in Astoria and the establishment of the Food Innovation Center in Portland in collaboration with the Oregon Department of Agriculture.
Dutson will be presented with the award at the Denim and Diamonds Dinner on Nov. 21 in Portland. Also being honored will be Oregon Agriculturist of the Year, Bernie Faber, owner of Cal-Gon Farms in Tillamook.
Two join firm: Dave Pautsch and Jason Cadwell have joined RE/MAX Integrity at its Albany office. A retired Navy commander, Pautsch comes to the company as a real estate broker. He holds three advanced degrees and a CRS designation. A member of the Greater Albany Rotary Club, Pautsch's interests include spending time with his wife, Lisa, and their two daughters; playing golf; and managing his own radio show.
Cadwell, a veteran real estate broker who specializes in new construction and development, has lived in the area all his life, and prior to working as a real estate agent was employed at Hewlett Packard. Educated at LBCC and OSU, Cadwell enjoys car racing, fishing, camping and vacations with family. He holds a CRS designation and is known for superior customer service.
Pulmonologists: Mark C. Pohlman, M.D., and Vincent J. Gimino, M.D., are the newest critical care specialists to join The Corvallis Clinic Pulmonary Medicine Department.
Dr. Pohlman comes from Chicago's Evanston Northwestern Healthcare and completed his fellowship in pulmonary and critical care research at the University of Chicago. He received his medical degree in 2001 from Wayne State Medical School in Detroit.
Dr. Gimino comes from Robbinsdale, Minn., where he worked as a critical care, pulmonary and sleep medicine specialist. He completed his fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine in 2003 at the University of Minnesota, and in sleep medicine in 2004 at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. Dr. Gimino received his medical degree in 1996 from Albany Medical College of Union University in Albany, N.Y.
Drs. Pohlman and Gimino specialize in treating patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema and lung disease. Dr. Gimino will also be seeing sleep medicine patients. Both physicians will also serve in the Intensive Care Department, and are accepting new patients and referrals. They can be reached at 754-1272.
