Boy Scouts from communities in Linn County, North Albany and Jefferson will go door to door in their neighborhoods on Saturday, Dec. 5, to collect nonperishable food for food banks in their communities. The annual food drive, called Scouting for Food, takes place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Food donations should be nonperishable and within expiration dates. Food collected will go directly to the local food providers, including Fish of Albany, Fish of Lebanon, the Scio Fire Department, the Jefferson Fire Department and Sharing Hands in Brownsville.
Sweet Home area Boy Scouts will hold a food drive at a later date, with donations going to the Sweet Home Ecumenical Ministries.
Organizers said high unemployment has sparked a dramatic rise in demand at local food banks. Families missed as the Scouts make collections are urged to make donations directly.
