Stuart Welsh and his band students at West Albany High School are selling performances of Duck and Beaver fight songs, which they will play Thursday, Nov. 29, for a listener of the purchaser's choice.
"Friendly" fight songs, for a fan of the team whose song is being played, are $50. "Unfriendly" fight songs, for someone who may have, shall we say, a different point of view on how the game ought to end, are $75.
All 124 students in the West Albany band department will take part in the fundraiser, and performances are scheduled all day, Welsh said.
Reservations can be made by contacting Welsh at 967-4545 or stuart.welsh@albany.k12.or.us.
"Spots do fill up, so it's important to get a call in," he said.
Proceeds from the fundraiser go to the band department's operational expenditures: travel, sheet music, instrument repair and the new uniforms band members recently received.
This year, a record 16 West Albany students were selected to participate in the Western International Honor Bands performance, which takes place this weekend in Seattle, Welsh said.
Three other West Albany seniors - another record, Welsh said - were selected for all state honor groups. Alto saxophone player Tina Armstead was selected for all-state jazz band, oboe player Logan Blair was selected for all-state honor band and percussion player Matt Silbernagel was selected for all-state orchestra.
