Movies by Moonlight will offer more than just full-length films on the back wall of the Eagles building in downtown Albany this summer.
A classic cartoon and episodes from the "Flash Gordon" serial will precede each movie, and Wyatt's Eatery & Brewhouse will have a beer garden behind its building at 211 First Ave. N.W. Those in the beer garden will be able to see the movies from their seats.
To stage this summer's event, sponsors are needed to defray the $1,300 cost. Already on board are Magnolia Music, the Albany Downtown Association, The Pix Theatre and Wyatt's. Anyone wishing to help out can call Connie Lanham at (541) 926-3119.
All movies are free, but organizers will pass the hat. Movies start about 8 p.m., and moviegoers are asked to bring their own chairs and snacks. Sponsors hope to have soda, popcorn and ice cream for sale.
The "Flash Gordon" serial was made in 1936 and is about three Earthlings who visit the planet Mongo to thwart the evil schemes of Emperor Ming the Merciless and stars Buster Crabbe and Jean Rogers.
