Albany's summertime slurry seal program is scheduled to begin Wednesday on a long list of North Albany streets.
Expected to be completed in four days, the program focuses this year on the area adjacent to Gibson Hill Road from Scenic Drive to Penny Lane and Dover Lane to Maier Lane.
Streets in the vicinity of 25th Avenue and Oak Grove Loop are also included.
The work will be performed by Asphalt Maintenance Associates Inc. of Eugene, which has the contract for about $90,000.
The affected streets will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Notices will be distributed and "No Parking" signs posted 48 hours in advance.
All vehicles and any other items or materials on the street must be removed before the closure. Anything left after 7 a.m. on the scheduled day of work will be removed at the owner's expense, the city said.
Police, fire and other emergency vehicles will have access as needed.
Slurry seal is a thin asphalt surface coat that is applied to the full width of the street to seal cracks and protect the pavement from further weathering. It extends the life of the street and cuts down on long-term maintenance needs.
Wet and sticky when first applied, the seal will dry quickly and depending on weather a street can be reopened to traffic in four to six hours. Vehicles and pedestrians should not use a newly sealed street until it is reopened by the contractor.
Should it rain on a day that work is planned, it will be rescheduled and residents notified.
