People arrested are innocent unless proven otherwise in court. Initial charges often change as a case progresses.
ALBANY
Alleged neglect - Police were called at about 9:20 p.m. Tuesday to a residence at Heatherdale Mobile Village, 950 Airport Road S.E. for a report of a missing 3-year-old boy.
The boy had been missing for about 10 minutes when the parents called. The responding officer found the boy sleeping inside a suitcase in the home.
According to police, the residence had molding food on dishes, dirty laundry and human feces on the floor, and smelled of urine. Police also found a marijuana pipe.
The parents were cited for second-degree child neglect. The Department of Human Services placed the boy and three other children into protective custody.
Passed out transients - Police were called Monday afternoon to the building that will be the future home of the Albany Public Library on 14th Avenue S.E. A caller reported that a man was sleeping in a flower bed.
It turned out that there were two intoxicated men passed out at the location. Police woke them up and had them leave the area.
LINN COUNTY SHERIFF
Rescue - The dive team was called Tuesday evening to help two adults and two children get safely across the North Santiam River near the Marion Forks area.
According to the sheriff's office, the family had somehow ended up on the Linn County side of the river and were trying to get back to the other side. The dive team put a rope across the river and used a raft to ferry them back across.
There was also an elk calf with the family that had apparently been following them. Deputies put down the elk because it had a broken leg.
Field damage - A grass seed field on Northern Drive near Brownsville was damaged during the night Monday when a vehicle was driven through it. The damage was estimated at $5,000.
Brandon Lynn Williamson, 32, of Brownsville was arrested on charges of criminal mischief and driving while suspended. He was lodged in the Linn County Jail.
Crash - A 1992 Geo Storm crashed near Shimanek Bridge Drive and Richardson Gap Road at about 6 a.m. Tuesday.
The driver, Scott Voelsch, 37, of Crabtree went by private vehicle to a hospital. He had minor injuries, according to the sheriff's office. Voelsch was reportedly trying to avoid another vehicle when he crashed.
Tools stolen - Construction tools worth more than $2,000 were reported stolen Monday from the 36000 block of Duffy Lane.
Theft - A portable Honda generator, red, was reported stolen over the weekend from a shop in the 38000 block of Highway 228. Approximate value: $1,000.
Theft - A Linn County Road Department employee reported Monday that a CB radio and fire extinguisher had been stolen from a road grader parked on Lake Creek Drive, east of Interstate 5.
Appliances stolen - About $3,000 worth of appliances were reported stolen Monday from a residence in the 36000 block of Airport Road in Lebanon.
