Albany police

Shovel swinging - Police responded at 12:37 a.m. Sunday to a report of a disturbance in the 1000 block of Fourth Avenue S.E. and found a man with a shovel yelling in the street. Officers detained the man at Taserpoint and took the shovel away from him.

According to police, the man had gotten into an argument with a woman during a birthday party and then began swinging the garden shovel. No one was injured but the man did damage a fence.

The 41-year-old man was taken to the Linn County Jail on misdemeanor charges of menacing, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief.

Assault - Around 4:30 a.m. Sunday, police got a call about a man who had been punched and was bleeding from the head. Medics also responded.

Police spoke with three intoxicated men who were in the 300 block of 28th Avenue S.E. The men said they had been at a party at a house down the street. One of them - the one bleeding from the head - called a woman a name and then got into a fight with a man. After talking with police, the three men left in a taxi.

Going-home fight - A woman came to the police station Sunday afternoon to say that her boyfriend had beat her up around 2 a.m. that same day.

According to a police report, the couple had been at a house in the 2200 block of Front Avenue N.E., and the boyfriend wanted to go home to their tent at Bryant Park. The woman didn't want to leave and her boyfriend assaulted her.

Police have not yet spoke with the boyfriend.

Stolen quad - A green 2002 Honda Recon 250 4-wheeler was reported stolen Sunday from the 1600 block of Second Avenue S.E. Value: $2,000.

Burglary - A house in the 2500 block of Hill Street S.E. was broken into sometime before this morning. A laptop was stolen. Further details were not available.

Linn County Sheriff

Mailbox damage - A mailbox on Fry Road was destroyed by an explosive device sometime before Sunday. It was unknown what exactly caused the damage.

Theft - On Saturday, a pickup owner noticed the catalytic converter had been stolen off the vehicle while it was parked in a driveway on Peoria Road.
