A 77-year-old Sweet Home man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly tried to suffocate a 99-year-old female acquaintance.
According to Lebanon police, here's what happened:
Officers responded at 11:28 a.m. to the woman's residence in southwest Lebanon.
About a half-hour earlier, Willis Willard Porter had been at the home. He and the woman had a brief conversation, after which Porter allegedly knocked the woman to the floor, assaulted her and attempted to suffocate her.
The woman went to the Lebanon hospital, where she was treated for minor injuries and released.
At about 3:30 p.m., Lebanon detectives, assisted by the Linn County Sheriff's Office, went to Sweet Home, where they arrested Porter at his home.
He was charged with attempted murder, strangulation and fourth-degree assault, and lodged in the Linn County Jail.
Details such as how exactly the suspect and victim knew each other or what prompted the alleged assault were not available.
