Rotary Follies tops $4,500 for CAP

Rotary Follies, an evening of music and entertainment put on by the Greater Albany Rotary Club and the Albany Rotary Club in October, raised more than $4,500 for the Community Before & After School Child Care Program. CAP will use the money for scholarships for families in need.

The clubs plan to team with CAP for another fundraiser next year.

CAP provides schildren with access to state certified care, guidance, nutritious food and memorable learning experiences.

Methodist lunch to feature mission program

The United Methodist Women will meet for lunch at noon Wednesday in the fellowship hall at the First United Methodist Church, 1115 28th Ave. S.W.

The program will feature Shirley Hilts and Kirsten Allum. They will discuss the recent School of Missions program.

Library story time to take winter break

The Albany Public Library's five weekly story times will take their annual winter vacation Dec. 18-29.

Story times will resume at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 2 at the Main Library, 1390 Waverly Drive S.E.

The 2008 schedule will remain unchanged, with five weekly story times: 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays at the Downtown Carnegie Library, 302 Ferry St. S.W.; and 7 p.m. Tuesdays and 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at the Main Library.

Children of all ages are welcome to attend any story time with no need to register.

Gift wrapping will aid United Way

Volunteers from the Linn-Benton Mediation Service will be among those providing holiday gift wrapping at the Heritage Mall from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday and 20. Proceeds go to United Way agencies.

Interested volunteers can sign up for hour or longer periods by calling 928-5325 or e-mailing intern@mediate.peak.org.

Women invited to Republican luncheon

Women in Benton County interested in finding out about the Benton County Republican Women's Club are invited to a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.
