Mark "Cap'n Slappy" Summers, co-founder of International Talk Like A Pirate Day, will read excerpts from "The Pirate Life: Unleashing Your Inner Buccaneer" on Saturday, Sept. 6 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Waldenbooks Calendar store at the Heritage Mall in Albany.
In addition to reading passages and signing copies, Summers will teach participants the finer points of talking like a pirate. All ages are welcome.
The book is the third co-written by Albany resident Summers and his partner John "Ol' Chumbucket" Baur, who recently moved to the U.S. Virgin Islands and will not be at the book event.
The two founded the holiday as a joke among friends and it's grown to become a worldwide celebration of what Summers and Baur call "pirattitude," observed each Sept. 19.
This year, they'll spending Talk Like A Pirate Day in Philadelphia as guests of The Franklin Museum, which is featuring the National Geographic "Real Pirates" exhibit. The newest book was released Aug. 26 by Citadel Books, a division of Kensington Publishing Co.
