COBURG (AP) - Suspended Police Chief John Bosley has resigned effective Sept. 30 citing job stress. He had been on paid administrative leave since Sept. 10.

City Administrator Don Scheussler cited general operating issues as reasons for the suspension. He said it was not related to the city sale at auction of a semi-automatic M-14 rifle owned by the U.S. Defense Department or a burglary in which items from the police department office at City Hall were taken. The theft is under investigation.

Bosley, 39, became a Coburg police officer in 2000 and had been chief in the town north Eugene since 2006.

He wrote in his resignation letter that he hopes to attend law school and run for the Coburg City Council.
