Pump and Run will benefit firefighter fund

Entry forms are now available for the fourth annual "Pump and Run" competition to be held Saturday at the Albany Athletic Club, 380 Hickory St. N.W.

The event is a fundraiser for the Albany Fire Fighters Community Assistance Fund (AFFCAF).

The event is a combined bench press and 5K run competition. Participants receive a time deduction from their run time for each repetition they can bench press. There is also a 5K run or walk-only division.

Entry forms are available at the Albany Athletic Club, Gold's Gym, Fire Services located upstairs in City Hall, or at any of the four Albany fire stations. In Corvallis, entry forms are available at 5-Star Sports and Gold's Gym.

Registration open for classes at pool

Registration is under way at the Albany Community Pool for morning and evening classes.

Morning sessions run from 8:45 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday. Session dates are June 18-29 and July 2-14 (no class July 4). Cost is $38.

Registration for morning sessions held later in the summer will be at 8:30 a.m. July 6.

Evening sessions run between 6 and 8:05 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. The June session began June 5 and runs through June 28. The next sessions if July 3-26. Cost is $30.50.

Registration for the final summer evening session will be at 5:30 p.m. July 12.

Breastfeeding group to hold open house

La Leche League of Albany will host an open house and demonstrate a variety of baby-carrying items at the Albany Public Library from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Volunteers will be available to answer questions about breastfeeding and La Leche League. Visitors may try on slings, wraps, pouches and backpacks, and learn tips for using them. Mothers, fathers, grandparents, babies and caregivers are welcome.

La Leche League is an international nonprofit nonsectarian organization dedicated to providing education, information, mother-to-mother support and encouragement to women who want to breastfeed. Accredited by La Leche League International, volunteer leaders are experienced breastfeeding mothers who are familiar with research and current findings in all aspects of nursing. Leaders offer practical information and support to nursing mothers by telephone, in monthly meetings and lending libraries of books on childbirth, breastfeeding and related parenting topics.

La Leche League of Albany meets at 6:30 p.m. the second Monday of the month at Samaritan Albany General Hospital, 1046 Sixth Ave. S.W.

BROWNSVILLE

Sign-ups set for horseshoe tourney

The Brownsville Pioneer Picnic Horseshoe Tournament will be June 16 and 17 at Brownsville Pioneer Park.

Sign-ups are from 5 to 6 p.m. Wedneday; 4 to 7 p.m. Friday; and 10:30 a.m. Saturday until the tournament starts.

There will be a double elimination and ribbons will be given for first, second and third place.

The cost is $6 per team and teams can be men's, women's or co-ed.
