An appearance by former state Rep. Carolyn Oakley at Villas of Albany has been postponed. It was originally planned for Tuesday, and will be rescheduled.
Nicaraguan health worker to speak
The Institute for Peace and Justice and the Spanish language program at Linn-Benton Community College will host a presentation by Nicaraguan community leader and health worker Yamileth Perez from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday in the College Center Board Rooms, 6500 Pacific Blvd. S.W., Albany.
The second most impoverished country in the Western Hemisphere, Nicaragua has struggled for years under the burden of internal and external debt. SCIO
Council to get look at library designs
If you want to see the designs for the new Scio library, stop by city hall at 7 p.m. Monday, when the architects will present their schematic design to the Scio City Council.
Prior to that, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the senior center, the Friends of the Scio Public Library will hold a party to celebrate the library's 60th anniversary and the completion of the schematic design.
The design by firm Fletcher Farr Ayotte of Portland includes windows, porches, a children's storytime area, and a large community room with a moveable dividing wall and a closet kitchen.
This first phase of the design process was paid for by a grant from the Wichita Falls Area Community Foundation. Additional funding is needed to buy the land, complete the design and pay the construction costs. The Friends of the Public Library will lead the fundraising effort.
The Friends meet at 7 p.m. the first Monday of the month at Scio City Hall. Anyone who wants to help with fundraising is asked to attend, or call Linda Ziedrich at (503) 394-3643, May Garland at (503) 394-3696 or Shirley Hardee at (503) 394-4230.
