ADAIR VILLAGE
City, Civil Air Patrol to hold parade
The city of Adair Village will hold a Fourth of July parade with the assistance of the Civil Air Patrol.
Other organizations and groups participating will include Adair Village Rural Fire and Rescue, Adair Village Code Enforcement, Adair Village Summer Youth Program and local veterans.
The parade will start at 10:30 a.m. at the north end of Barberry Drive. It will run the length of Barberry and William R. Carr Street, and turn east on Arnold Avenue. It will end at Santiam Christian Schools.
Three Civil Air Patrol units will participate in the parade and assist with its operations. They are the Salem Composite Squadron, the Camp Adair Flight and the Linn-Benton Composite Squadron.

ALBANY
SafeHaven plans 'Independence Day' specials
SafeHaven Humane Society is holding "Independence Day" adoption specials July 1-6 at the shelter.
Adoption fees will be reduced by $20 for dogs; from $65 to $10 for adult cats; and to $45 for kittens. Each adoption includes initial shots and deworming, flea treatment, a collar and ID tag, microchip and a complimentary veterinary exam. In most cases, the animal is already spayed or neutered.

SafeHaven is open from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday; and from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. The shelter will be closed on July 4.

City plans hiking, photography trips
Albany Parks & Recreation will offer three day-hikes this summer, and participants can choose a hike or a photohike.
The hikes, led by outdoor enthusiast John Radetich, will focus on sightseeing and enjoyable physical activity. They will be a little longer than the photohikes, which will be led by hiker and professional photographer Joel Zak and focus on photographing nature and scenery while providing exercise in beautiful country. All costs are listed for Albany residents/those living outside city limits.
Here are some details:
* Silver Creek Falls State Park - 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 12. Hikers will walk the nationally recognized "Trail of Ten Falls," which actually goes by 11 waterfalls, including some you walk behind, in a little more than five miles with an elevation gain of 600 feet. Cost: $27/$36. Photohikers will follow most of the same route while learning to photograph waterfalls, lush foliage and local wildflowers. Bring an umbrella to keep your camera dry. Cost: $35/$47.
* Iron Mountain Area - 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 26. Hikers will visit a geologic and botanical wonderland. This 7-mile hike has an elevation gain of 1,800 feet. Cost: $27/$36. Photohikers will learn how to photograph the panoramic views, wildflower meadows and closeups. Cost: $35/$47.
* Breitenbush River Area - 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16. Hikers will travel the historic trail near the Breitenbush River through old-growth Douglas fir and western hemlock for approximately 7 miles with an elevation gain of 700 feet. Cost: $28/$37. Photohikers will have the opportunity to photograph small waterfowl, local flora, rivers and streams. Cost: $36/$48.
Transportation will be provided for all the trips. Participants should come prepared for unpredictable weather; wear sturdy, comfortable shoes; and bring water and a sack lunch. Trips will go rain or shine unless conditions are considered unsafe. Photohike participants will need a camera and accompanying equipment.
