Beginning Tuesday and continuing through Thursday, Albany Fire Department engines and ambulances will park at various schools to remind people to drive safely.
Banners will be on the emergency vehicles that read: "Please Drive Slow, School is Back in Session."
Last year was the first time the department held the back-to-school-safety campaign. It was so successful, that the city is doing it again. Ambulances are being added this year, said department spokeswoman Wanda Omdahl.
According to the Center for Disease Control, unintentional injuries are the No. 1 killer of children under the age of 14, she said. Motor vehicles are the leading cause of those injuries. Children are either passengers in a wreck or they are struck by a vehicle.
Here is a reminder of Oregon's school bus laws.
When red lights flash, drivers meeting or coming up behind a bus must stop before reaching the bus. Drivers must remain stopped until the lights are turned off. On a highway divided by a median or barrier, drivers must stop only on the same side as the bus. A painted median strip does not constitute a separate roadway.
