People arrested are innocent unless proved otherwise in court. Initial charges often change as a case progresses.

Albany police

Drug raid - As part of an ongoing investigation, detectives served a narcotics search warrant Friday morning at 308 34th Ave. S.E.

Police said they seized scales, packaging materials, prescription medication and user amounts of methamphetamine.

David Preston Freeman, 54, of Corvallis was arrested for possession of prescription medication (codeine) and for an outstanding warrant for failure to comply.

Tracy Lea Skelton, 52, of Albany was charged with possession of meth and frequenting a place with controlled substances.

Albany police were assisted by the Linn County Sheriff's Office and the Sweet Home Police Department.

Jefferson fire

Collision, fire - Jefferson medics responded Friday to an engine fire and a three-vehicle collision on Interstate 5 about six miles north of Albany.

Spokeswoman Elaine Parrott gave this account:

The fire involved a 1980 Dodge Voyager van at milepost 239, Interstate 5. The blaze started in the engine and destroyed the van. No one was injured, she said. Jefferson firefighters doused the flames.

Neither the time of the fire nor the lane of traffic where it took place were available.

The incident slowed traffic, Parrott said, which could have caused the three-vehicle collision in the northbound lanes of milepost 240 shortly after the fire, at 2:58 p.m. One person was taken to Samaritan Albany General Hospital. No further information was available.

I-5 fires - Drivers on Interstate 5 may still see plumes of smoke from fires in the Santiam Bluffs area near Jefferson, said Elaine Parrott, spokeswoman for the Jefferson Fire District. However, she said, crews are still at the scene monitoring the situation and mopping up where needed.

The Santiam Bluffs fire, which burned about 20 acres, was one of eight that broke out Wednesday afternoon along Interstate 5 between Eugene and Jefferson. The cause is unknown, and Oregon State Police are investigating.

Linn County Sheriff

Theft - Owners of forest service dump trucks reported thefts and damage to the equipment Friday from a site at the Hackleman Creek Old Growth TrailHead on Highway 20 near Tombstone Pass. Broken windows, pried doors and stolen CB radios were listed in the damage report. Deputies took a report.
