SALEM (AP) - State environmental officials are investigating U.S. Senator Gordon Smith's frozen foods processing company for discharging wastewater from its Eastern Oregon plant into a nearby creek.
The Department of Environmental Quality says Smith Frozen Foods contacted the agency last month to report that some corn processing water from the company's plant at Weston had flowed into Pine Creek.
The agency says the incident is still under investigation and that no fine has been proposed against the company owned by Smith, who's facing a tough re-election campaign this fall.
Smith's company has been fined for similar spills in the past.
