Cambridge Terrace Assisted Living Community invites the public to join residents on a trip to Spirit Mountain Casino. The bus will leave Cambridge Terrace, 2800 14th Ave. S.E., at 9:30 a.m. May 14 and return around 4 or 4:30 p.m.
A limited number of seats are available at no cost. Bring money for gambling and food.

Linn-Benton Opera Guild to preview 'Aida'
The Linn-Benton Opera Guild will preview the opera "Aida," by Giuseppe Verdi, at 8 p.m. Wednesday at 106 Benton Hall at Oregon State University. Music professor Angela Carlson will tell the story of the opera and play recorded excerpts.
Admission is free to opera guild members and students of Linn-Benton Community College and OSU. Cost for the general public is $4.
Performance dates will be May 9, 11, 13, 15 and 17 at 7:30 p.m. at Keller Auditorium in Portland. To make bus reservations, call Valerie Krauss at (541) 766-8916.
Lecture will explore Taiwan medical practices
Liu Shiyung, an associate fellow at the Institute of Taiwan History, Academia Sinica in Taiwan, will deliver a lecture on "Prescribing Colonization: Medical Practices and Policies in Japan-ruled Taiwan, 1895-1945" at 4 p.m. May 8 at Oregon State University, in the Memorial Union Journey Room.

LEBANON
Fire district to hold open house
The Lebanon Fire District will hold its annual open house from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the main station, 1050 W. Oak St. A bike rodeo begins at 9.
The event will feature free hot dogs, popcorn and pop. Visitors can try on firefighter turnouts, ride on fire trucks, visit the "safety house" and watch an extrication exercise. For more information, call 451-1901.

High school to present 'Our Miss Brooks'
Drama students at Sweet Home High School will present the comedy "Our Miss Brooks" at 7:30 p.m. May 8 and 9 in the auditorium at the school, 1641 Long St.
Senior Mary Bond has the lead as Miss Brooks. The play also stars freshmen Jacob Holden as Ted Wilder and Ashley Garrett as Jane.
Tickets are $4 for adults and $2 for children and students, and are available at the door or in advance by calling Sweet Home High School at (541) 367-7145.
