Another Albany business has been robbed, and police are asking for help in finding the man they believe is responsible for some of the recent holdups in town.

Shortly before 5 p.m. Tuesday, a man robbed the Big 5 Sporting Goods store, 2280 Pacific Blvd. S.E., making it the second business in Albany to be hit in 24 hours and the 13th robbery this year.

Police said the robber came to the store counter with snow pants and a jacket. The cashier rang up the items, but instead of paying the man gave her a note demanding money.

The man never showed a gun but the clerk thought he was armed because of the way he had his hand in his pocket.

The man left with an undisclosed amount of money. (Police often don't say how much money robbers get away with because that specific piece of information can help in the investigation.)

Detectives said this morning they are searching for Brandon Lee Maxfield, 22, a Linn County resident originally from the Crabtree area.

They suspect Maxfield robbed the Big 5 store as well as the H&A Market on Monday evening and the Fast Break Market on Jan. 19. Handguns were brandished in both of the convenience store holdups.

Detectives are looking into whether Maxfield has robbed other local businesses as well.

Maxfield is described as white, 6-foot-1 and 180 pounds. He is considered armed and dangerous and anyone who sees him should call 911.

Anyone with information about Maxfield's whereabouts or the recent robberies is asked to call the Albany Police Department detectives division at (541) 917-7686.
