Drivers, take note: Around the mid-valley, school's out for the summer.

Some districts, such as Central Linn and Jefferson, finished last week.

Albany and Sweet Home schools wrapped up classes Thursday, and most Lebanon students finished today.

Most districts plan to bring students back Sept. 4, the day after Labor Day.

With children out of school during the day, the Albany Police Department reminds drivers to watch out for more skateboarders, bicyclists and pedestrians.

The police department is sponsoring a bike rodeo from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 23 in the parking lot of Joe's sporting goods.

Capt. Eric Carter also had these reminders for summer activities:

• Don't forget your bike helmet. Helmets are required for all cyclists under 16.

• Remember the curfew. Anyone under 18 must be off the streets by midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, and by 10:30 p.m. the rest of the week.

• Headed out for a cruise? Wear your seatbelt, don't speed and don't trespass in a parking lot where loitering isn't allowed. The department will be sending out extra patrols to check on cruisers, Carter said.

"We want kids to have a good time," he said, "but they need to behave themselves."
